Camila Cabello was the surprise guest artist for Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella set on Friday night.

Del Rey temporarily left the stage after singing her song “Bartender” as Cabello launched into a surprise performance of her new single “I Luv It” from her forthcoming fourth studio album. Lana joined Cabello through some verses but mostly watched and danced from the balcony of her palace-like stage.

Cabello was backed by a crew of dancers who recreated the robotic choreography seen in the single’s matching music video which also features collaborator, Playboi Carti (Carti was not present on stage). Del Rey joined Cabello on the floor of the stage during Carti’s verse and placed her hands around Cabello’s waist as the two shared a playful spin.

“I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it,” Del Rey sang back to Cabello as the pop singer closed the song. She continued, “[Camila] is my girl, I have so much fun with her. I love this song and thank you so much angel, for coming and singing with me.”

Cabello responded, “This is an honor for me, you’re one of my favorite artists of all time. I love you so much.”

Del Rey’s week one Coachella performance welcomed recent collaborators Jack Antonoff and Jon Batiste, who again joined Del Rey again on Friday night. Both Antonoff and Batiste are also performing their own sets (Antonoff as the lead singer of the band Bleachers) at the festival. Billie Eilish also joined Del Rey who turned up for a surprise pair of duets of Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes,” and Del Rey’s “Video Games.”

Its the end of an era -- after decades of making it a staple of his persona, Snoop Dogg might be dropping his weed-smoking habit like it’s hot.

“After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke,” the rapper and entrepreneur posted on his social media accounts on Thursday.

“Please respect my privacy at this time.”

The 52-year-old, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, did not specify what is all covered by “smoke”, or give any further indication as to whether or not the statement was serious.

For most of his career, Snoop Dogg and marijuana have been as closely linked as June Carter and Johnny Cash. The rapper’s enthusiasm for smoking weed is a staple topic of interviews, and as an entrepreneur, he has invested in numerous cannabis companies and spoken at cannabis-themed events.

As recently as October, Snoop Dogg was speaking on his connections in the weed world, stating in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he knew someone to help find weed in almost every country he’d been to, calling himself “the plug to your plug.”

The rapper first rose to prominence through guest appearances on Dr. Dre’s 1992 album, “The Chronic,” which had a marijuana leaf emblazoned on its cover art. He would go on to become a household name after his debut album, “Doggystyle” in 1993 and is most well-known for hits like 2004’s, “Drop it Like it’s Hot.”

In 2019, he revealed on the Howard Stern Show that he had hired a professional blunt roller, stating in 2022 that inflation had pushed his blunt roller’s salary up between US$40,000-US$50,000 a year.

Some fans reacted with scepticism to Snoop Dogg’s Thursday post about stepping away from weed, with one reply  to his post on X stating, “today isn’t April Fools day Snoop.”

Other fans speculated that the rapper could be making a shift to cannabis edibles only, while yet others applauded the move, with one reply stating  “we respect that Snoop, health comes first.”

Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari separated nearly three weeks ago, and he is seeking spousal support and attorneys fees in their divorce, according to his divorce filing.

Asghari, 29, filed his petition to dissolve his 14-month-old marriage to the 41-year-old pop superstar in Los Angeles County court late Wednesday.

Like the vast majority of those who file for divorce in California, he cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

The document lists the couples separation date as July 28, though reports of the split did not emerge until Wednesday. It says he will try to get financial support from her, while blocking her from getting any from him. And it seeks to have her pay for his divorce lawyers.

The filing says the value of Spears and Asgharis assets, and those they own jointly, has yet to be determined.

Spears and Asghari had no children together.

Email sent to a Spears representatives were not immediately returned.

She has not addressed the split on social media. Her lone Instagram post since the divorce filing is a photo of herself on horseback on a beach, with a caption that begins, Buying a horse soon!

Spears married Asghari at her home in Thousand Oaks, California, on June 9, 2022, in front of guests including Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Madonna, in a wedding seen as a milestone in her newly reclaimed life after the dissolution just six months earlier of the court conservatorship that controlled her life for more than 13 years.

Spears met and began dating Asghari, a model and actor, when he appeared in her video for the song Slumber Party in 2016.

She cited her desire to marry Asghari as among the reasons she wanted an end to the constraining conservatorship, which she said was preventing it. The two announced their engagement in September of 2021 as it became clear she would be freed from the conservatorship -- which was ended that November.

Spears said she and Asghari lost a baby early in her pregnancy in May 2022, about a month before they married.

Reports of the couples struggles had increased in recent months.

Their marriage is the first for the 29-year-old Asghari and the third for the 41-year-old singer. She was married for less than three days in 2004 to childhood friend Jason Alexander, who attempted to crash her wedding to Asghari and was later convicted of misdemeanor trespassing and battery.

In 2004, she wed dancer Kevin Federline. Their three-year marriage would come at a time of intense media scrutiny and increasing mental health struggles for Spears. Federline is the father of her two teenage sons, and has custody of the boys.

She would be placed in the conservatorship run by her father in 2008. She did well under the arrangement at first, continuing to release records, make videos, and perform live, including a major concert residency in Las Vegas. But as she appeared less in public, fans began to demand that the court .FreeBritney, in what would eventually become a major movement.

Since the conservatorship ended, Spears has put out music, including a collaboration with Elton John in 2022, but has not performed live in years, nor announced plans to do so.

Her memoir, The Woman in Me, is scheduled to be released in October.

Ryuichi Sakamoto, a world-renowned composer and electronic music producer, has died at the age of 71.

Sakamoto died on March 28th after a battle with cancer, according to a statement published on his website over the weekend. We would like to share one of Sakamotos favorite quotes, the statement reads. Ars longa, vita brevis. Art is long, life is short.

Revered for his pioneering work as a founding member of the influential Japanese electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra, Sakamoto had been diagnosed with cancer twice in the span of a decade. He was reportedly diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 before the disease went into remission, but revealed he had rectal cancer in 2021.

Sakamotos spellbinding music is prevalently credited as a seminal influence on early techno and synthpop. The Oscar-winning composer was a Renaissance man who collaborated with legends like David Bowie, Thomas Dolby, Iggy Pop and Bernardo Bertolucci.
