Saskatchewan producers made solid progress on the remaining crops last week thanks to favourable weather that allowed them to bring in the final acres and finish fall field work. Rain and snow over the weekend temporarily paused operations, but many producers are hopeful conditions will improve so they can return to the fields before winter. Harvest is now 98 per cent complete across the province. The west-central and northeast regions lead at 99 per cent, followed by the southeast and northwest at 98 per cent and the southwest and east-central regions at 97 per cent. While most producers have wrapped up harvest, some still have small amounts of oilseed, chickpea and canary seed left in the field. Canola is 98 per cent harvested, mustard 95 per cent, flax 87 per cent and soybeans 83 per cent. Many areas saw significant rain and snow over the weekend, while others received only light precipitation. Strasbourg recorded the most rainfall at 52 millimeters, followed by Archerwill with 50 and Arborfield with 43. The moisture was especially beneficial for producers who have completed harvest, helping to boost soil moisture levels. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated at seven per cent surplus, 53 per cent adequate, 30 per cent short and 10 per cent very short. Hayland and pasture moisture levels remain slightly lower, with many areas still dry. Producers are hoping for more precipitation before freeze-up to further improve soil conditions and recharge dugouts for spring.
