A Regina man is facing several charges after he accidently shot himself with a concealed weapon, according to police.
Officers responded to a business on the 1900 block of Hamilton Street in Regina’s downtown at around 10:20 Tuesday morning following a report that a man had been shot.
Police and EMS arrived at the scene quickly and attended to the victim, a 26-year-old man. Officers recovered a gun that had been dropped nearby.
The victim was taken to hospital by paramedics. His injuries were later discovered to be non-life-threatening.
A 16-year-old girl was arrested at the scene for possessing bear spray.
Following an investigation, police discovered the shooting was the result of an “accidental discharge” of the weapon that was recovered. The injured man was also found to be in possession of bear spray.
The accused faces several charges, included careless use of a firearm, possessing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon knowing possession is unauthorized.
The 16-year-old girl was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
Both of the accused are expected to make their first court appearances on Thursday, May 1.
