The Saskatchewan RCMP has arrested a former Saskatoon timber home builder who is accused of defrauding his customers. The arrest came just hours after police announced a warrant had been issued for 42-year-old Jason Pacik. According to Sask. RCMP, he was taken into custody on Thursday in Saskatoon. He faces one count of fraud under $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000. Pacik is set to make his first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Jan. 21, 2026. In January 2024, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s central district priority support unit began a fraud investigation into Prairie Timber Group Limited, a Saskatoon-based business offering custom timber homes and structures. Through the investigation, RCMP learned the person who identified themselves as the business’s owner told several victims he was affiliated with a reputable Canadian timber home company based in Ontario. Victims signed contracts with the company and would pay to have their projects built. Once the payments were sent, victims were no longer able to get in contact with the business, and they never received the structures they paid for. In the announcement of the charges against Pacik, RCMP noted that it identified the accused and the business due to the belief that there are more victims that have yet to be identified. The RCMP encouraged anyone who has been affected by the accused or Prairie Timber Group Limited to contact their local police service. In 2024, several victims came forward and spoke to CTV News about their experiences with the accused and Prairie Timber Group Limited. Many of the accounts described a positive first meeting, after which they provided a down payment. Once the funds were transferred, all the victims said they gradually lost contact with the accused. These experiences all occurred from mid-2020 to early 2021. Some former customers say they lost up to $90,000 from their dealings with the company. In August 2024, CTV News visited the site of Prairie Timber Group Limited in Corman Park, where the business appeared to have been abandoned.
