Taylor Swift postponed an Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro Saturday after a 23-year-old fan died during her Friday night show, according to a message posted on the singers Instagram.

Im writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonights show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio, the singer said in a handwritten note posted on her Instagram account. The safety and well being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first.

The cause of death for Ana Clara Benevides Machado, the young woman who sought medical attention at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium during Fridays show, has not yet been announced. The office of Rios public prosecutor opened a criminal investigation and said Benevides body was being examined.

Benevides death shook many people in Brazil. She had taken her first flight ever to travel from the countrys centre-west region to Rio to see her favourite musician. She also created a WhatsApp group to keep her family updated, sending photos and videos every step of the way, family members told online news site G1.

Fans and politicians reacted to her death with outrage, speculating it was linked to extreme heat.

Concertgoers complained they were not allowed to take water into the stadium despite the stifling weather. As temperatures continued to rise Saturday and with two more shows to go at the time, federal authorities announced that free water would now be made available at concerts and other large events.

One of Benevides friends, who also went to the concert, told local outlets they had both been given water while waiting to enter the stadium.

In a previous statement shared on her social media Saturday morning, Swift said she had a shattered heart.

Theres very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young, the singer wrote of the young woman.

The shows organizer, Time4Fun, said on Instagram that paramedics attended to Benevides after she reported feeling unwell. She was taken to a first-aid center and then to a hospital, where she died an hour later, the statement from the Brazilian live entertainment company said.

Fans who attended the Friday show said they were not allowed to bring water bottles into the stadium even though Rio and most of Brazil have had record-breaking temperatures this week amid a dangerous and lasting heat wave. The daytime high in Rio on Friday was 39.1 degrees Celsius (102.4 degrees Fahrenheit), but it felt much hotter.

Apparent temperature -- a combination of temperature and humidity -- hit 59 C (138 F) Friday morning in Rio, the highest index ever recorded there.

Elizabeth Morin, 26, who recently moved to Rio from Los Angeles, described sauna-like conditions inside the stadium.

It was extremely hot. My hair got so wet from sweat as soon as I came in, she said. There was a point at which I had to check my breathing to make sure I wasnt going to pass out.

Morin said she drank plenty of water but saw a good amount of people looking distressed and others yelling for water. She said she was able to get water from the sidelines of the area she was standing in, but that water was a lot harder to access from other parts of the stadium, especially if you were concerned about losing your specific position.

During the show, Swift paused her performance and asked from the stage for water to be brought to a group of people who had successfully caught the singers attention, according to Morin.

They were holding up their phones saying `We need water, she recalled.

Two other concertgoers interviewed by The Associated Press said they witnessed people feeling unwell from the heat during the show.

On her way to Rio, Benevides sent a video to family members that was broadcast by TV channel Globo News, telling them: Mom, look at the plane, its moving. Mom, Im on the plane. My God in heaven! Im happy!

Then before the concert, she posted a video of herself on Instagram wearing a Taylor Swift T-shirt and friendship bracelets, seeking shade under an umbrella while waiting in line to enter the stadium.

Like her, thousands of fans waited hours in the sun before being allowed inside.

She told her followers while fanning her face that shed arrived at 11 a.m. -- the show began around 7:30 p.m. -- and was still in the mess.

Benevides friend, Daniele Menin, who attended the concert with her, told online news site G1 that her friend passed out at the beginning of the concert, as Swift performed her second song, Cruel Summer.

We always said that when (Taylor Swift) came to Brazil we would find a way to go. The ticket was very expensive, but we still found a way, Menin told G1.

Justice Minister Flavio Dino said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that going forward in Brazil, water bottles for personal use, in suitable material, will be allowed at concerts and festivals and that show producers must provide free and easily accessible drinking water.

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes wrote on X that the loss of a young womans life ... is unacceptable and demanded more brigades and ambulances at future shows.

Still, the concert was postponed.

We are on the train. And everyone is so disappointed, said Hely Olivares, a 41 year-old Venezuelan who had travelled from Panama to see the artist.

Before postponing the concert, Swift wrote on Instagram that she would not address the death from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it.

I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends, she said.

Its the end of an era -- after decades of making it a staple of his persona, Snoop Dogg might be dropping his weed-smoking habit like it’s hot.

“After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke,” the rapper and entrepreneur posted on his social media accounts on Thursday.

“Please respect my privacy at this time.”

The 52-year-old, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, did not specify what is all covered by “smoke”, or give any further indication as to whether or not the statement was serious.

For most of his career, Snoop Dogg and marijuana have been as closely linked as June Carter and Johnny Cash. The rapper’s enthusiasm for smoking weed is a staple topic of interviews, and as an entrepreneur, he has invested in numerous cannabis companies and spoken at cannabis-themed events.

As recently as October, Snoop Dogg was speaking on his connections in the weed world, stating in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he knew someone to help find weed in almost every country he’d been to, calling himself “the plug to your plug.”

The rapper first rose to prominence through guest appearances on Dr. Dre’s 1992 album, “The Chronic,” which had a marijuana leaf emblazoned on its cover art. He would go on to become a household name after his debut album, “Doggystyle” in 1993 and is most well-known for hits like 2004’s, “Drop it Like it’s Hot.”

In 2019, he revealed on the Howard Stern Show that he had hired a professional blunt roller, stating in 2022 that inflation had pushed his blunt roller’s salary up between US$40,000-US$50,000 a year.

Some fans reacted with scepticism to Snoop Dogg’s Thursday post about stepping away from weed, with one reply  to his post on X stating, “today isn’t April Fools day Snoop.”

Other fans speculated that the rapper could be making a shift to cannabis edibles only, while yet others applauded the move, with one reply stating  “we respect that Snoop, health comes first.”

Sean Diddy Combs, was accused in a lawsuit Thursday of subjecting R&B singer Cassie to a yearslong relationship that included beatings and rape.

Cassie, whose legal name is Casandra Ventura, alleged in the suit filed against the producer and music mogul in New York federal court that Combs brought her into his ostentatious, fast-paced, and drug-fueled lifestyle not long after she met him and signed to his label when she was 19 and he was 37 in 2005.

Attorney Ben Brafman said Combs vehemently denies the allegations.

Ventura, now 37 herself, said Combs, now 54, began the pattern of abuse began as soon as their relationship did.

The suit alleges that, prone to uncontrollable rage, he subjected her to savage beatings in which he punched, kicked and stomped her. It alleges he plied her with drugs, and forced her to have sex with other men while he masturbated and filmed them.

The suit says that as she was trying to end the relationship in 2018, Combs forced her into her Los Angeles home and raped her.

After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships, Ventura said in a statement.

The Associated Press does not typically name people who say they have been sexually abused unless they come forward publicly as Ventura has.

Brafman called the allegations lies.

For the past six months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Venturas persistent demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail, he said in a statement. Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Combss reputation and seeking a payday.

Combs is among the most influential hip-hop producers and executives of the past three decades.

He and Ventura began dating in 2007 and had an on-and-off relationship for more than a decade.

She became known for the Ryan Leslie-produced hit single Me & U, which secured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart in 2006. The song was the lead single of her only studio album, which was self-titled.

As an actor, she has appeared in several television and films projects including Foxs Empire, Step Up 2:The Streets and Spenser Confidential.

Combs built one of hip-hops biggest empires, blazing a trail with several entities attached to his famous name. He is the founder of Bad Boy Records and a three-time Grammy winner who has worked with a slew of top-tier artists including Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Usher, Lil Kim, Faith Evans and 112.

The mogul created the fashion clothing line Sean John, launched the Revolt TV channel with a focus on music, and produced the reality show Making the Band for MTV.

This year, he released his fifth studio album The Love Album: Off the Grid, which earned two Grammy nominations this month.

The lawsuit cites a speech Combs gave while receiving a lifetime achievement honor at the BET Awards in 2022, in which he thanked Ventura for holding me down in the dark times, love.

The suit says, The truth, however, is that Cassie -- Ms. Casandra Ventura -- was held down by Mr. Combs and endured over a decade of his violent behavior and disturbed demands.

Swifties, mark your calendars.

Taylor Swift has added dates to the Canadian leg of her blockbuster Eras Tour – scheduling three shows in Vancouver.

The pop star will be playing BC Place on Dec. 6, 7, and 8, 2024.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of bringing Taylor Swift, The Eras Tour, to Vancouver, giving fans the experience of a lifetime,” said Terrie Tweddle, spokesperson for Rogers Communications Inc., which is presenting the tour.

For those who want the chance to score tickets , registration for an online sale opened Thursday at 8 a.m. and runs through Saturday at 5 p.m.

On Wednesday, Nov. 8, registered fans will get an email telling them if theyve been added to a list of people who get first dibs at tickets or placed on a waitlist. The actual sale will start the following day, open only to those whose access has been confirmed.

The only other Canadian city Swift is set to visit is Toronto, where she will play six shows in November of next year.

Those shows were added earlier this year after an outcry over the fact that no Canadian dates had been scheduled. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was among those who posted to social media asking the star to reconsider.

B.C. Premier David Eby, who made a plea of his own in an Instagram story last month, weighed in shortly after Swifts announcement.

Welcome to Vancouver, we’ve been waiting for you! he wrote in Twitter.

I’m convinced it was my invitation that convinced Taylor Swift to come to BC. Not the sold-out venues worldwide, not that her biggest & best fans are in our province, not that she already planned to… Nope, can’t be any of those!

The provinces tourism minister, Lana Popham, issued her own invite back in July, and reacted to Thursdays news on social media – first by tweeting a series of exclamation marks, later following it up with, This is big!

BC Place has a capacity of 54,500, meaning the all-but-inevitably sold-out shows would bring upwards of 150,000 fans to the downtown core over three days. On average, Eras Tour fans are spending U.S. $1,300 – equivalent to more than $1,700 in Canada – on tickets, merchandise, alcohol, food, parking and hotels.

And if Swifts previous stop in the Pacific Northwest is anything to go by, the impact could be literally seismic. Over the summer, a show in Seattle generated activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.
