Toyota Canada is recalling more than 30 of their models, including several under the Lexus brand, as the result of a software glitch with the rearview camera. According to a recall posted by Transport Canada, the issue is triggered under certain conditions that can lead to the rearview camera image freezing, or not displaying at all. The review images won’t display when the transmission is shifted into reverse, “If this happens, the rearview image may not display when the transmission is shifted into reverse,” the recall said, which goes against Canadian regulations that require the rearview image to show when the car is in reverse. The recall only pertains to vehicles that have a panoramic view monitor system. “A rearview camera image that doesn’t display correctly could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up” the recall read. “This could increase the risk of a crash,” The issue impacts 99,178 vehicles. According to the recall, those who own affected models will be notified in writing. It is advised that they take their vehicles to a dealership to update the software. Some of the recalled vehicles include popular modes like the Toyota Camry 2025 2026; Toyota Highlander 2023 2024 2025; Toyota Prius 2023 2024 2025 and 19 different models of Lexus vehicles from 2022 to 2025.
