A one-year-old girl who was the subject of an Ontario Amber Alert on Tuesday afternoon has been found safe, Peel police say.
Around 5 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police, on behalf of Peel police, sent an alert out about the female infant who was last seen in Brampton.
Peel police media relations officer Const. Mandeep Khatra said the incident began in the parking lot of a Brampton strip mall near Queen Street East and Airport Road around 2 p.m.
That’s where the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, allegedly shot and killed a woman.
He then fled in a black 2024 Nissan Kicks with a Quebec licence plate, FRV4520. His one-year-old daughter was in the back seat at the time.
“I can now confirm that the child has been located by police, safe and sound, so police are with the child,” Khatra said during a police news conference around 6:40 p.m.
“We believe the child was dropped off to family members,” he added.
Khatra would not confirm the relationship of the shooting victim and the suspect but said, “Given the totality of the situation, we believe this to be an intimate partner-related incident.”
“However, it’s still early; we’re looking at all different avenues and trying to figure out what exactly transpired, but most importantly, right now we’re trying to find the suspect.”
Deschepper is described as standing five-foot-nine, weighing 181 pounds, with brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie and blue jeans and carrying a black cross-body bag.
Just after 6:30 p.m., police in Niagara Region posted on social media that Deschepper may be in Fort Erie and are asking residents in the area of Prospect Point and Ridgeway Road to shelter in place while the investigation is ongoing.
