Ground is now being broken at the site of what will become Regina’s second Costco location. Excavators and bulldozers were spotted at 8701 Dewdney Ave earlier this week – moving dirt and completing prep work. In addition to the store, the site will also feature 1,200 parking stalls and a gas station. Lands to the east and south of the site are zoned for commercial as well as medium to low density residential developments while the site is flanked by Pinkie Road and the Rural Municipality of Sherwood to the west. Earlier this year, the project received a $6.78 million grant in the form of economic incentives from the City of Regina. The funds for the Economic Development Incentive Agreement grant will be transferred from the City of Regina’s Land Development Reserve and are expected to be paid back by the retail store within seven years. The development of a second Costco in Regina was long awaited – as Saskatoon received its second location in 2016.
