Regina police say a woman is facing multiple drug and driving-related charges after evading police and colliding with three vehicles on Elphinstone Street Friday afternoon. “Officers attempted a traffic stop shortly before 5 p.m. for an expired registration at the intersection of Elphinstone Street and 2nd Avenue but when police’s emergency lights were activated the driver sped away at a high rate of speed,” a Regina police news release said. Officers lost sight of the vehicle, and no pursuit was attempted, the release said. Police then learned the same vehicle was involved in two hit and runs, one on the 1200 block of Elphinstone Street and the other near 6th Avenue and Elphinstone Street, where two more vehicles were hit. Shortly after the collisions police said officers found the vehicle abandoned in a back alley nearby. The driver of the vehicle was found a short distance away and arrested without further incident, Regina police said, adding that a search of the vehicle revealed items consistent with drug trafficking. As a result, a 43-year-old woman is facing six charges, use of licence plates on the wrong vehicle, driving an unregistered vehicle, operating a conveyance dangerous to the public, flight from a peace officer, failure to stop after an accident and possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking. The woman made her first court appearance Monday morning, Regina police said.
